All submitted Thanks to everyone for their time and attention refining the words.
We also sent our stand application for Penpot today! Finger’s crossed! We asked to be placed next to OSD’s but that’s not up to us, of course, we’ll see! Regardless, see you all at FOSDEM!
Open Source Design devroom update
Submission date has passed and we’ve had 20 talk applications. At the moment we’re contacting some of the speakers as they’ve not specified some important information (in-person/remote, and confirmation talks fit our 25min format).
We’ve given them until 2022-12-16T23:59:00Z to get back to us. This is not ideal as it means some days delay, but we’ve built in some buffer for things like this.
Once they reply, @nim and I will create the anonymised list of talks for voting. We will share that in this thread and the voting rules.
The community will have 3-4 days to vote on talks, and we’ll then contact the accepted speakers.
FOSDEM stand
@Erioldoesdesign have you gotten any response from the FOSDEM organisers about our stand application? The list of stands was supposed to be released already.
Thanks all.
Awesome that so many people handed in a talk eventually!
Devroom update
Over the last few days, speakers have been submitting the missing info, so we should have everything we need soon.
We’ll then have the list of talks ready.
Stand application
I was looking around the FOSDEM news website and they have published the list of accepted stands.
According to the list, unfortunately ours doesn’t seem to have been accepted. Pity. Also sad it seems the Penpot stand was not accepted.
@Erioldoesdesign did you get any communication from the organisers about our application?
Attention!! Attention!!
FOSDEM 2023 design track session voting is finally ready. We’ve still got 3-4 talks missing information, but we’ll begin voting.
Voting deadline
You have until 2022-12-22T14:00:00Z
to vote!
Rules on voting
The only rules are:
- You have 8 votes (from all the sessions listed, you can select a maximum of 8 talks you would like to see included)
- If you’ve submitted a talk proposal, don’t vote for your own talk
This is a blind review, so don’t ask for the speaker name. Some smart people will be able to infer speaker, we can’t do much about that.
How do I vote?
-
Follow the link to the voting spreadsheet
-
Read through each talk submission.
-
Put your name in 1 of the available cells -
- If you like a talk, put 1 on the row (remember: you have 8 votes).
When voting closes, we’ll add them up votes.
The highest voted talks will then go into the schedule.
I need help voting!
If you have any questions or need help, let us know here.

Since the devroom is only half day this year, the schedule will be as follows:

Argh! What a shame OSD didn’t get a stand…! We were unsure about Penpot’s application (we’re new) but I would’ve never thought OSD’s wouldn’t get an instant OK, TBH!
Yes, agreed Pablo. It seems to be they’ve had a lot of applications for devrooms and for stands. But it’s still disappointing.
Yikes: there are lots of excellent submissions. I had a tough time picking 7.
It would be great if we could make space for one more …
Yep, @nim agrees that we give the first slot over to a speaker as well.
So, I updated the number of votes available to
8 votes
So please all, vote for the 8 talks you’re most interested in.
Voted! was so hard to choose!
I wonder if we might encourage/support the other applicants to submit recorded versions of talks that we could link in maybe a youtube page or similar?
