I love this!

So many students and/or early career folks think that re-designing commercial sites for portfolios is the only way to build a portfolio pre-client work. Would love love love that contribution to OSS becomes the new way to build a design portfolio.

Very true!
I passed through that phase when I was looped into doing free designs for exposure and for more works!
