Those might sound like the same thing but they are kinda sorta slightly different! haha!

Our website has an overview of resources including how to join open source design (the organization that runs this site). You can also see if there are any jobs (in open source projects) or issues (mostly for our website) that interest you and match your skillset.
My general advice is picking a software that you already use and which is not too big and find out if you could contribute there! (see this guide for the reasons and that guide for potential tasks)
