- Jobs must be related to work on a Free/Libre and Open Source project.
 Responding to a job post
 Responding to a job post
Over 2024 and 2025 the core maintainer team noticed a lot of responses to job posts that were word for word or very similar to many other job post replies. We’re kindly asking people interested in contributing to OSS gratis jobs or applying for paid roles to follow the rules detailed below to avoid risk of your account being flagged or banned due to copy-paste responses.
-
Please, do not use generic copy-pasted responses. If you are suspected of copy pasting responses to jobs then you will be warned 3 times and then permanently banned at the 4th attempt. You can appeal this by emailing core@opensourcedesign.net
-
Please avoid copy-paste suspicious activity where you copy and paste the same/similar responses to multiple job posts. To avoid flagging as copy-paste, please do reference the name of the OSS project that posted the job in your forum response.
-
Please do not reply to a job post asking the poster to reply to a mobile phone number, whatsapp number/account or any other similar account (e.g. Telegram, Signal etc.). This is to avoid spam/scamming happening off our forum. You must content the OSS project via the method stated on their Job Post (e.g. email, matrix chat room etc.)
-
We encourage you to introduce yourself in the Intro thread before responding to a job post.
Background Infos – history log
- Update October 2024: Set create permissions to trust level 4 (aka leader), remove create from role everyone.
- Update July 2024: Deleted the “browse Jobs” headline (was only useful when this was the landing post for the discourse-as-replacement job-board) and rename to “Guidelines on posting and responding to jobs” since both of these are covered here now (see June 2024)
- Update as of June 2024: we’ve implemented some rules for individuals responding to Job posts saying they want to work with them/contribute
- Update early 2024: The old job board is up again, so job posts are not created as a forum post anymore
- We have/had a job board that we could post to via a form, but the job board is down at the moment, so posting the jobs here directly is our alternative until the form is fixed.
